YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER?

finger-pointing 2

Sitting down somewhere, I got thinking about the saying , ‘one man’s meat is another man’s poison.’  I came to the conclusion that the saying does not only refer to food but to a whole lot of other things.

You see,the reality is, what is a weakness to you is a strength to some one else, your source of joy might be a source of sorrow to someone else; Let’s take an example of death which is usually a very painful ordeal. At the same time, businesses like morgue,  stay in business because people are dying everyday, the carpenter who makes coffins is glad that his merchandise is being bought.

There are certain things found in a human’s  heart and one of them is the tendency to compare yourself with others and judge them. The reality is; the basis of the comparison is on your strengths, and thus you deceive yourself because you always come to the inevitable conclusion that you are better.

You might wonder why people look down on others; sometimes it happens subconsciously and it later breeds pride; You see when you look at someone and think,’what’s wrong with this one? can’t he be this? can’t he stop that?’  When you look at that drunkard, that prostitute, that thief and think,’gosh,I am way better than this guy.’ Do you know that there might be some things that you are struggling with that he has already conquered? Maybe you are wondering what it is am trying to say, please stay with me.

Do you know this drunkard might not be bearing bitterness towards others or maybe the unforgiving person you are? That prostitute is maybe using her money to look after her poor neighbor and feeding them something you don’t do. The thief is not struggling with secret sin because his ways are known…All am saying there is an element of good in everyone. So if you think you are better have you considered all these?

When you are a hypocrite your portion is with the sorcerer,if it is jealousy then you sit at the same table with the murders, that is God’s standard.Jesus being our perfect example refuses to be called perfect because no man is.That is why Paul says that no man should think of himself higher than he ought to; Romans 2:1(You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad and you have no excuses! when you say that they are wicked and should be punished, you are just condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very things,)but always think others better than himself.

I heard someone say that those people who are very good are in heaven rejoicing with Christ and those who are very bad are in hell crying and gnashing their teeth (according to God’s measure),the rest of us,are all the same equally good and equally evil, all dependent on God to grace us and be merciful on us.

So the next time you sit and think you are better than someone else and look down on them you might want to be careful first when all comes to an end you meet in the same destination as yourself  and you are ashamed.

DO YOU STILL THINK YOU ARE BETTER?

  2. A very good challenge there, this article reminds me the fact that one of the things non-believers hate about we Christians is that we are very judgmental, how are we going to win these people unless we love them the way they are and express the unconditional love of God to them, not looking at them as sinners but rather as potential royalties.
